The Steel Block Late Model Series has had 108 different drivers compete in Series events during the 2020 season. Ending the year with 12 total races, the season was a pretty good year even though the SBLMS had to cancel and postpone some races due to Covid-19. The SBLMS is looking forward to a great 2021 season, hopefully starting in April.

The SBLMS would like to thank all the drivers that have supported the Series this year, it was greatly appreciated. With our first year running a Series we definitely had our ups and downs and learned a lot of things along the way. The SBLMS is excited about the 2021 season and for it to be bigger and better than the 2020 season. The SBLMS hopes to be visiting a few new tracks in the 2021 season.

The SBLMS is going to try and have a points banquet where the Series will distribute the awards for the top 10 in points for the season. More information about the banquet will be released at a later time.

Thanks to Josh Wilson Photography for the great photos and for following the SBLMS all year and supplying the Series with some awesome photos.

Hawkins Sweeps The Series Weekend

The Steel Block Late Model Series took over The New MRP on Friday and traveled to Jackson County Speedway on Saturday.

Friday night saw Clint Kennan, the points leader at the time, take the fastest lap in time trials. Starting him on the pole of heat one. After having a flat at the start of the heat giving the 34c of Pete Crum the heat one win. The second heat would go to the Kyptonite chassis C2 drove by Corey Delancey. The third and final heat would see the 68 of Jacob Hawkins taking the win.

The three heats started the 15 car field leading to a b-main which would see Ryan Keckley jump to an early lead then retire early. Handing the lead to the 145 of Chase Frohnapfel, later to be over taken by Rookie if the year leader, Kent Keyser.

The feature lineup was set from a redraw per track rules which threw a few wrinkles in the lineup and made for a very interesting race! The race would be lead from start to finish by Cameron Logan owned 68, Black Diamond Chassis driven by Jacob Hawkins. Their were many battles all threw out the field. One of which would see Clint Kennan, taking the provisional to start the feature moving all the way up to the top five but ending in a disaster with last lap last corner flip, ending his night a corner short and stripping him of a hard charger award. The full feature results saw J. Hawkins, P. Crum, C. Delancey, Z. Milbee, B. Staker, M. Meyers, J. Vandale, D. Nobbe, Pribble, K. Keyser, J. Preech, J. Brewer, R. Frohnapfel, C. Frohnapfel, C. Kennan, T. Hahn, J. Curnutte, M. Melvin, K. Wiser.

Saturday Jackson Co Speedway was set to have the Steel Block Late Models invade the Badass Little Bullring. With a new point leader in the Field, with Pete Crum over taking the top stop it made for a great night of racing.

The night started with Cory Delancey, taking the top time in time trials, driving his kryptonite chassis. Starting on the pole of heat one he would lead the first few circuits then had an issue and spun, passing the lead to Jacob Hawkins who would go on to win heat one. The rest of the heats saw the winner from the front row. With Shane Bailey taking heat two and heat three going to Zack Milbee. The feature would be eventful with some red flags, a few issues happening during the race but never the less the steel block series drivers put on a great show for the fans. Grabbing the win would be Jacob Hawkins going two for two this weekend and won the bonus money provided by The New MRP and Jackson County Speedway, followed up by S. Bailey, P. Crum, Z. Milbee, C. Delancey, M. Melvin, C. Kennan, R. Frohnapfel, C. Frohnapfel, J. Bowie, K. Keyser, K. Wiser, D. Gullium, J. Vandale, J. Curnutte, T. Hahn, M. Yates, L. Cornell, C. Lillibridge.

Zack Milbee Scores Steel Block Late Model Series Win At Ohio Valley Speedway

The Steel Block Late Model Series invaded the Ohio Valley Speedway for the second points race of the series 2020 season. The event started with the number 68 Black Diamond chassis of Jared Hawkins taking the fast time with a time of 15.826. Hawkins would find himself as the only car in the 15 second bracket as Chuck Kimble, builder of the Punisher Chassis, took second quick time with a 16.118 and Zack Millbee driving a Rocket Chassis would take third quick with a time of 16.203.

Hawkins would lead the field to green for the first heat of the night taking the win, with Matt Melvin taking second, Joe Brewer in third and Joe Bowie taking fourth, and the final transfer from the heat race.

Collin Holmes would start the field in the second heat race, and to go on to run second to Brian Eaton in the E10, with Adam Miller finishing third and then Chuck Kimball finishing in the final transfer spot in forth.

The third heat would see the 33 of Nick Corbitt and Russ Frohnapfel leading the field to the green with Corbitt jumping to an early lead and holding on for the win. The series points leader Clint Kennan would find himself in second after the checker flew with Zack Milbee finishing in a strong third and Russ Frohnapfel holding onto the last transfer spot.

The final heat of the night would have the number 9 Kryptonite Chassis of Mike Foggin taking the checkered flag followed by another Kypotonite Chassis of Jacob Curnutte, Kyle Wisser, and Lee Cornell taking the final transfer.

With a sixteen car field set, it left 2 spots coming from one B-main race. The field was started out the 34c of Pete Crum and Doug Dodd on the front row with both of those drivers maintaining the top spots and transferring into the main event. The 23 of Johnny Vandall would take the series provisional and start 19th in the 25 lap feature.

The Steel Block Late Model Series took the green for the 25 laps $1000 to win the main event with Jared Hawkins and Brian Eaton leading the field to take the green. The fast time and heat winner of Hawkins would take the lead and go on to lead the race with Corbitt finding second and running the bottom of the track. Soon after a few cautions and some shakeups threw the field the series point leader, Clint Kennan was with the top 3 of Hawkins and Corbitt. After a tough battle throughout all of the field and a very close top three battle Kennan in his 29 Rocket Chassis, carrying the Neon Yellow Point Spoiler courteous of Tye Twarog Racing would find himself at the top spot going into 2 laps to go, after throwing a slide job and overtaking Hawkins. Hawkins didn’t back down as the white flag flew 20 feet in the air with both the 29 and the 68 door to door as they drove into turn one. Tough racing leads to an altercation on the back straightaway resulting in Hawkins unable to finish and Kennan being put to the tail of the field. Finding their way threw the heavy and hard racing Zack Milbee and his 5m Rocket would find himself at the top spot leading the pack to a one-lap dash to win. With a late challenge from Corbitt, Millbee would take his Dohm Cycles, Inc, Finish 1 auto body, Octane Race Products, Dave Poske's Performance Parts, Hoosier Tire Ohio Valley Todd Frye, Hawk Performance, Mullins Race Engines, Accu•Force Dynos & Testers, Aurora Bearing Company, John Brown racecar bodies, Rocket Chassis, Öhlins USA, Swift Springs, and Wiles drive shafts to victory lane claiming the $1000 payday and the second series race of 2020!

The final results were Zack Milbee, Nick Corbitt, Pete Crum, Doug Dodd, Chuck Kimball, Russ Frohnapfel, Johnny Vandall, Clint Kennan, Lee Cornell, Joe Bowie, Jared Hawkins, Jacob Cornutte, Jow Brewer, Brain Eaton, Matt Melvin, Mike Foggin, Collins Holmes, Adam Miller, and Kyle Wiser.

Next race for the SBLMS is scheduled for July 17th at Moler Raceway Park paying $1,200 to win.

The Steel Block Late Model Series Excited For The 2020 Race Season

Formerly Known as The Buckeye / Mountaineer Limited Late Model Series in 2019 as been renamed The Steel Block Late Model Series as the 2020 race season approaches. The Steel Block Dirt Late Model Series is based out of Ohio. The SBLMS plan on racing in the Tri-State area of Ohio, West Virginia, and Kentucky. The Steel Block Late Model Series will move into its second year. The first year was under the name of The Buckeye / Mountaineer Limited Late Model Series. Frohnapfel Motorsports has taken over the series for the 2020 season. Frohnapfel Motorsports has been around the Dirt Late Model racing industry for over 30 years. Frohnapfel Motorsports are very excited to get moving with the series and provide the top steel block drivers in the Ohio valley area a series to run. Last year the series had a total of five races and the SBLMS are looking to expand on that this year. We averaged 35 Steel Block Late Models at the five races that were held. We are hoping for the same success in 2020. Zach Milbee of West Virginia was our inaugural Series Champion as the 2019 season came to a close. We are looking forward to a great racing season with the Steel Block Late Model Series.
